How to use the eLibrary
Your library card isn't just for borrowing regular books, you can also use it to access the eLibrary. In order to borrow, download or stream from the eLibrary you will need to login with your full library card number (A20003xxxxxxxxxB) and password, which is your date of birth in eight numbers (ddmmyyyy).
eBooks and eAudiobooks
eBooks are books in a digital format and eAudiobooks are recorded books in a digital format. You can download both eBooks and eAudiobooks to a computer, laptop, tablet, eReader or smartphone.
We use two suppliers, which both include a wide range of fiction and non-fiction for adults, teens and children. Some titles are held on both platforms so make sure you check both.
Bolinda BorrowBox eBooks & eAudiobooks
Download the free BorrowBox mobile app to read or listen to books on smartphones or tablets. You can borrow or reserve up to a total of 10 eBooks and eAudiobooks at a time. Loans are for two weeks and you can renew your loans up to four times.
Overdrive eBooks & eAudiobooks
Read online or download the free Libby app to read or listen to books on your smartphone or tablet. You can borrow up to six titles at a time and reserve up to two. Loans are for three weeks.
To use an eBook or eAudiobook on your device or computer, you may need to download special software. The Help pages on the supplier sites explain the software you need.
Free eBook internet sites
You can also download or read eBooks online for free from some internet sites.
- National Emergency Library: From the Internet Archive, a temporary collection of books that supports emergency remote teaching, research, independent scholarship, and intellectual stimulation while universities, schools, training centres and libraries are closed.
- Audible is offering a wide variety of free eAudiobooks while schools around the world are closed. The free eAudiobooks are primarily for children from younger readers to teens. There are also classics that appeal to all ages as well as titles in French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese.
- Project Gutenberg: Over 40,000 out-of-copyright titles to read online or download in different file formats.
- Open Culture: Great classic titles to read online or download in different file formats.
Authors include Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.
- Many books: Over 29,000 titles to read online or download in a wide range of file formats.
Titles include Crime and Punishment, Anne of Green Gables and The Art of War.
- Internet Archive: Wide range of fiction, children's books, historic texts and academic books.
- Google Books: Preview books and download PDFs of out-of-copyright titles.
- University of Pennsylvania: Over a million books to read online. Mostly American academic and historic titles.
- Bartleby: Classic American literature and some reference works. Includes King James Bible. Online reading only.
eMusic is music in digital format that you can either stream or download and save on a computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone or other device to listen to at your convenience.
Freegal provides free access to around seven million songs from a variety of music labels. It offers a choice of thousands of artists and includes many different music genres, with both music and music videos available to stream or download. Every song has a sample clip you can listen to before you download.
Downloads are all in the MP3 format with no digital rights management (DRM) issues, and will work with any MP3 player, including iPods, and can be loaded into iTunes. Freegal mobile apps are available.

To help during this time of pandemic, you can stream music and music videos 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You also get 5 free downloads per week, with songs counted as 1 download and videos counted as 2 downloads each.
The site has a counter in the top right-hand corner of the screen which will keep a count of your weekly downloads. The counter is reset each Monday to allow you to start downloading again. You can also create a wish list of songs for future downloading.
Freegal advises that you should back up any songs you download as they are unable to restore lost or damaged downloads. Freegal does not require any software to be downloaded, and the songs you download are yours to keep.

eNewspapers and eMagazines
eNewspapers and eMagazines are just like reading the print version, but on a computer or your mobile device.
The AGE Library Edition
During the COVID-19 pandemic, you can access The AGE Library Edition by logging into the library catalogue with your library card number and date of birth. Look for the link on the left-hand side after you have logged in.
PressReader gives you access to newspapers and magazines from Australia and around the world in full-colour full-page format. Titles are available in their original languages. We also have videos on how to use PressReader on a computer or mobile device.
Flipster features several popular magazines on a range of topics from current affairs to crafting, health to travel. Includes Choice and Choice Computer. Read online (watch our video if you need some help) or download the Flipster app for Apple or Android to read offline.
You can access Kanopy and sign up to start streaming films instantly. You can stream up to 10 free films each month, from any computer, television, mobile device or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, AppleTV or Chromecast.
Beamafilm features hundreds of award-winning documentaries, independent feature films and festival favourites with great Australian content. Be inspired, delighted and entertained while supporting local voices and independent film. There is no limit on the number of films you can view.
To access Beamafilm, you will need to choose Moreland City Libraries and enter your library card details. You will then need to set up an account with your email address or sign in using Facebook or Google.

Explore reference works in a whole new way online with encyclopedia articles at three levels, local and family history resources, car manuals and resources on learning to drive, and reputable sources of information about health and the law.
With three levels of information for children, teens and adults, Encyclopedia Britannica offers much more than just encyclopaedia articles. You can also explore images, videos and related research in journals and ebooks and even translate information into different languages. You can access Encyclopedia Britannica either at the library or at home.
Haynes Manuals AllAccess is a library of manuals covering a vast range of car and motorcycle makes and models, with up-to-date content including common repairs, routine maintenance and servicing procedures.

Ancestry Library Edition
You can access Ancestry Library Edition, which contains thousands of records, including passenger lists, census records, civil registration indexes, convict records, military service records and many more.
