m_othering the perceptual ars poetica

This exhibition seeks to explore how maternal roles are being approached in creative practice.
Curated by Abbra Kotlarczyk and Antonia Sellbach, m_othering the perceptual ars poetica is an examination of intersectional approaches to mothering and parentage, to include not only the care of children but of the environment and cultural spaces — their histories, forms and legacies. Within the broader context of care-taking and custodianship, the exhibition seeks to describe how maternal roles are being approached in, and at the sidelines of, creative practice.
In this way, the exhibition poses how ‘m_othering’ might function as a framework that speaks to a wide range of other care-taking practices and how we might consider diverse forms of m_othering as creative praxis; as an embodied ars poetica — a term that articulates a state of being, rather than meaning.
Curated by Abbra Kotlarczyk and Antonia Sellbach, with written contributions from Jazz Money and Guest, Riggs (Stephanie Guest & Kate Riggs).
