Although cork is a fully recyclable product, according to the Planet Ark website, there is curretly no organisation in Australia recycling cork.
Previously a cork flooring manufacturer recycled corks into their product. Unfortunately they no longer accept used corks from charity and community groups, because the corks weren't virgin cork and had other resins in them which produced an inferior end product. They now use virgin cork from overseas.
There are many ways that you can reuse your corks. The 1 Million Women website provides many great suggestions for reusing and upcycling your corks.
If you hear of any new programs locally or nationally to recycle corks please contact Council to let us know.
