Local actions to prevent family violence

The Moreland Gender Equality Commitment (PDF 701Kb) provides the framework for local actions by Council and community partners to:

  • promote gender equality
  • prevent and respond to family violence in Moreland

The Gender Equality Commitment is guided by a number of policies at national, state and municipal level, including:

From March 2021 the Victorian Gender Equality legislation will also guide Council actions.

The Commitment is supported by an Action Plan 2019-2021.  The first Progress Report September 2020 (PDF 667Kb) provides an overview of projects currently underway or recently implemented for the seven Gender Equality Commitments:

  1. Equal visibility, self representation and leadership opportunities
  2. Accessible and safe public spaces, including for sports and recreation
  3. Equal pay for equal work
  4. Safe and affordable housing
  5. Access to formal and community education
