Richards Reserve, Coburg North - New enclosed dog park
A new dog park in Coburg
One of the objectives of Council's Domestic Animal Management Plan (PDF 1Mb) was to investigate the possibility of a dog only agility park. This is an area which is fenced off with a dual access gate entry.
In November 2017, Moreland Council endorsed construction of enclosed dog parks at Gilpin Park Brunswick and Richards Reserve in Coburg North
These parks are designed to provide dogs with physical exercise and mental stimulation, help prevent behavioural problems, and allow dog owners to learn to control their dog in a confined area.
Both enclosed dog parks are now complete.
Richards Reserve in Coburg North now features an enclosed dog park. This follows community consultation in 2017 and the recent successful creation of Moreland’s first dog park at Gilpin Park in Brunswick
The draft concept plan that was prepared for community feedback in September 2018, shows the proposed area of approximately 3,000 square metres of nature play space for dogs, surrounded by a 1.35 metre high fence.
Feedback closed on Wednesday 19 September 2018.
Residents submitted feedback on the draft concept plan and this has contributed to the final plans for construction of this new dog park.
Construction works commenced in late September and works were completed successfully on 17 November 2018
Richards Reserve will remain an off leash park and local laws apply.
Opening of Richards Reserve enclosed dog park
Richards Reserve enclosed dog park was officially opened on 6 December 2018 with a community launch.
The new park offers health benefits for both dogs and owners, encouraging healthier lifestyles, community connection and responsible pet ownership throughout Moreland. You're welcome to bring along your dog to the event.
