The 2012 Community Planting Day Calendar (PDF 455Kb) lists planting days hosted by Council and local Friends Groups from May to September.
Council also funds community groups like Friends of Merri Creek and the Merri Creek Management Committee. This funding helps them run planting day activities, litter clean-ups and surveys along the Merri, Moonee Ponds, Edgars and Westbreen Creeks.
What is a planting day?
Local residents come together and plants tree and shrubs to improve parks and creek lands.
More trees and shrubs mean:
- better air quality
- more shade, and
- less erosion on creek banks.
A planting day usually runs on either a Saturday or Sunday, and is followed by a community barbecue for everyone involved.
