Disabled persons' parking permits
Council issues parking permits to people with a disability who are permanent residents of Moreland.
This is a free service. It is part of the statewide disabled persons' parking scheme.
The disabled persons' parking scheme has two permits.
Category 1 blue parking permit
Category 1 blue disabled person parking permit is for someone with significant intellectual and ambulatory disabilities and who meets the eligibility criteria.
With this permit, you can park:
- in an exclusive parking space. The parking space sign may have a time limit and fee payable.
- at an ordinary parking space. You can park for twice the length of time on the parking sign. If there's a parking meter, put the first parking meter fee in.
Category 2 green parking permit
The Category 2 green disabled person parking permit is for someone who has difficulty walking and needs rest breaks, and who meets the eligibility criteria.
With this permit, you can park:
- at an ordinary parking space. You can park for twice the length of time on the parking sign. If there's a parking meter, put the first parking meter fee in.
How long does a permit last?
Council issues a permit for three years to applicants with a permanent disability. After three years you may need to apply again to renew your permit.
Council issues a temporary permit to applicants with a disability that isn't likely to improve within six months. After six months, show a medical certificate to renew your permit.
Council issues a temporary permit to an overseas visitor with a disabled persons' parking permit issued in their home country.
How to apply for a disabled persons parking permit
- Contact Council for a Disabled Persons Parking Permit form.
- You or your agent fills in the first page of the form.
- A specialist medical practitioner, a clinical psychologist for intellectual disabilities or a a medical practitioner for all other disabilities fills in the second page of the form.
- Post or send both pages of the form to Council.
- Council makes a decision on the permit and tells you its decision.
- If Council decides not to issue you a disabled persons parking permit, Council gives its reasons in writing.
- If you want Council to reconsider your application, get a second opinion from another medical practitioner, specialist medical practitioner or clinical psychologist.
