About parking fines
If you park illegally in Moreland City Council, you risk being fined. If you do not pay the fine, additional costs will be added to the initial infringement amount. It is important to park legally and ensure fair use of Victoria's roads. If you do not pay your parking infringement, a warrant may be issued.
You have 28 days to pay a parking fine or you can appeal it.
If you don't pay in 28 days or don't contact Council, Council may take legal action.
Who sets parking laws in Moreland?
The Victorian State Government and some local laws set parking restrictions in Moreland.
The Victorian State Goverment decides on:
- clearways, and
- parking zones in Moreland
Parking restrictions exist to:
- give more people with access to shops and community facilities
- keep emergency hospital, clearways and school crossings clear
- help the flow of traffic, and
- let residents park locally.
Sometimes residents and community groups ask Council to enforce parking restrictions for safety reasons.
Parking infringement notices and fines
Council issues parking infringement notices according to state and local laws such as the State of Victoria Road Safety Act 1986 and the Road Safety (General) Regulations 1999 and Road Rules Victoria 1999.
If you get a parking fine, you can pay the fine or appeal the fine.
