Grass fire prevention
Grassfires are a risk and can spread quickly, even in suburban areas. Council's local law requires all property owners to maintain their properties and to ensure that vegetation does not exceed 30 cm in height. Failure to comply with this requirement can lead to notices to comply, fines and ultimately prosecution.
For residents who have previously received notices to comply to cut grass and vegetation, subsequent offences will automatically attract a fine and a further notice to comply.
A Grassfires fact sheet produced by the Country Fire Authority contains further information on the risk of grassfires and ways to protect your property.
