Hard waste collection

Hard waste stacked on naturestrip in local streetCouncil collects hard waste from homes and units in Moreland once a year. You can put up to one cubic metre (two washing machines side by side) of hard waste on the nature strip outside your property.

2009 hard waste collection

The hard waste collection for 2009 is now finished.

The next hard waste collection is in 2010.

You will receive a letter from Council two weeks before hard waste collection begins in your street.

What if I have hard waste now?

If you need to throw away hard waste now, take it to a transfer station or landfill or check our A - Z Guide of Waste and Recycling to see how to responsibily get rid of different things..

Please do not put it on the footpath or nature strip. This is illegal.

If you have computers to dispose of, please take them to a free Byteback computer recycling facility.

What is hard waste?

Hard waste is:

  • old tools and lawn mowers
  • refrigerators (remove the doors)
  • timber (up to 1.5 metres long)
  • stoves, washing machines and other similar appliances
  • chinaware and window glass (wrap heavily)
  • mattresses (one per household)
  • electrical appliances
  • old computers, and
  • old furniture.

All items must be able to be lifted by two people.

What is not hard waste?

How to put out hard waste

  • Place your hard waste in neat piles on the nature strip and put any small items in boxes so that they do not create windblown litter.
  • If you place too much hard waste out only one cubic metre will be collected.

Organised scavenging

Organised or commercial scavenging results in a loss of valuable scrap metal for the hard waste contractors and therefore a more expensive service for Council. If you see someone scavenging for scrap metal please contact Council.
