By recycling you are helping to protect the environment.
In July 2011, Moreland residents recycled:
- 751.26 tonnes of paper and cardboard
- 6.16 tonnes of liquid paperboard
- 320.21tonnes of glass
- 12.32 tonnes of aluminium
- 24.63 tonnes of steel
- 24.63 tonnes of HDPE
- 36.95 tonnes of PET, and
- 55.42 tonnes of mixed plastic.
- A total of 1231.58 tonnes.
This month our recycling saved:
Landfill
- 3,325.27 cubic metres of landfill space
Greenhouse gases
- 757.42 tonnes of CO2 emissions

Equivalent to 182 cars permanently removed from roads
Energy
- 23,350.45 gigajoules of energy
- Equivalent to the annual electricity requirements of 1081 households
Water
- 20,079.68 kL of water
- Equivalent to 8 Olympic swimming pools of water
Natural resources
- 61.58 tonnes of bauxite
- 352.23 tonnes of raw materials used in the production of glass (silica, limestone and soda ash)
- 34.48 tonnes of raw materials used in the production of steel (iron ore, coal and limestone)
- 9,766 trees, and
- 3,078.95 barrels of oil.
