The Northern Alliance for Greenhouse Action
The Northern Alliance for Greenhouse Action (NAGA) is a climage change network for local governments in Melbourne's northern suburbs. It was set up in 2002.
NAGA's members are the local governments of:
- Banyule
- Darebin
- Hume
- Moreland
- Whittlesea
- Nillumbik Shire Council
- Manningham
- Melbourne
- Yarra, and
- the Moreland Energy Foundation
What NAGA does
The Northern Alliance for Greenhouse Action develops projects, attracts funding and manages projects on behalf of the Councils. Moreland City Council shares information, research and advocacy to improve climate action and policy in Australia.
Current projects
Council's projects through Northern Alliance for Greenhouse Action include:
- Towards zero net emissions – an action plan to reduce emissions, which incorporates a community emissions profile for each Council and the region.
- Sustainable public lighting – NAGA has developed an action plan to take the opportunity to install more sustainable public lighting. NAGA has obtained funding from the Local Government Accord to assess the recycling options for street lamp removal, and to review LED technology for application in Australia.
- Delivering clean energy solutions – energising households for a safe climate future and working with the community on behaviour change action, including the facilitation of bulk buying environmentally sustainable products.
