Waste Charge
The Waste Charge is a fee for your rubbish bin. It is based on the size of your bin.
Council introduced the Waste Charge in 1997. The reasoning behind the charge is to encourage residents and business to reduce their waste and increase recycling – a smaller bin means a small Waste Charge and less waste.
There is no charge for recycling bins.
Council adopted the Moreland Waste and Litter Strategy in 2008. It has more information about the Waste Charge and Council’s aim to reduce waste in Moreland.
Weeds
Don't put blackberries, ivy, diseased plants and other noxious weeds in your green waste bin as these may be spread onto other peoples' gardens once the material is mulched.
Put weeds in a rubbish bin or in a compost bin.
To prevent the spread of seeds through compost, put weeds in a black garbage bag in a sunny spot to kill the weeds and seeds and then put the bag in the rubbish bin.
White goods
The Phoenix Fridge Project takes fridges and other whitegoods donated from all across Melbourne and recycles, repairs, and retrofits them to make them more energy efficient.
Donate other white goods to local charities.
