Recent achievements

Over the last ten years, the Friends of Aileu has achieved a lot. Here are some of our recent achievements.

Appointment of Project Worker in Aileu

In Febuary 2010, AVI volunteer, Paul Coghlan, began an eighteen month assignment working as an adviser to the Aileu District Administration. He is assisting the Administration with project planning and implementation. His position is funded by Friends of Aileu, with support from the Campaspe East Timor Association in Friendship and the Kangaroo Valley-Remexio Partnership, with accommodation provided by the District Administration.

Visit to Aileu by Project Coordinator 

In August 2010, the Friends of Aileu Project Coordinator, Richard Brown, visited Aileu before attending a conference of friendship groups in Maubisse. In Aileu he met with District officials and project partners.to discuss current and future projects. A report on his visit is available here ( ).

11th Anniversary celebration

2011 Was the 11th anniversary of the friends of Aileu. To mark the occasion, a fundraising dinner was held at the Aghadeer restaurant in Brunswick. The Guest speaker was well-known author and journalist,. Jill Jolliffe, who is also Director of the 'Living Memory Project' which is supported by the Friends of Aileu. Jill spoke about the prospects for justicve in Timor-Leste. A copy of her speech is available here (DOC 41Kb).
