Moreland Disability Advisory Committee
The Moreland Disability Advisory Committee aims to:
- give advice to Council on issues relating to disability, access, communication, participation and advocacy
- identify issues affecting people with a disability and to advocate and promote an awareness and understanding of these within Council and the community, and
- oversee and help to develop, monitor and implement the Moreland Disability Policy and Action Plan.
Scope
The Moreland Disability Advisory Committee gives Council with a forum to discuss and address issues about disability and to guide the implementation and monitoring of the Moreland Access and Inclusion Policy 2010 - 2014 (PDF 830Kb)
Membership
- Cr Kathleen Matthews-Ward
- Community representatives selected to represent a cross section of the local community, consisting of people with disabilities, their carers or family and disability service providers willing to participate in a strategic framework. Community members have an option to commit to a 2 year or 4 year term.
- A Council Officer from the Community Development and Social Policy Unit provides technical expertise and administrative support to the Committee.
- The Advisory Committee may invite suitably skilled persons to join the Committee in an advisory capacity for a specified purpose and period of time, including key staff from across Council. Co-opted members are not entitled to vote.
Meetings
This committee meets for two hours every two months at Moreland Civic Centre.
