Apply for an exhibition
The Counihan Gallery In Brunswik calls for exhibition proposals to be submitted in June each year for the following year’s Exhibition Program.
Applications to exhibit in 2010 are now closed.
Information Packs and Application Forms for the 2011 Exhibition Program will be available from the website and gallery in early 2010. Please note that the following information relates to the most recent application pack and may change slightly in the new pack.
Applicants can apply to hire the gallery in its entirety or in two separate halves. Exhibitions usually run for a total of three and a half weeks, which is about seventeen days open to the public (Wednesday to Sunday). The gallery is closed on public holidays.

Please note that applying for an exhibition at the gallery does not guarantee that an applicant will be approved an exhibition. The application process is a competitive one and involves a selection procedure.
Deadline for applications
The deadline for exhibition proposals for the gallery's Exhibition Program is in early June each year for the following calendar year .
Applicants are required to submit:
- a completed Application Form (attached as a cover sheet to the exhibition proposal)
- a typed exhibition proposal including a description of the exhibition concept and the work that the artist or curator intends to present (2 – 4 pages in length)
- 10 good images (in the form of digital images on CD, photographs or slides). For group artists, a maximum of 20 images may be included.
- all images must be accompanied by a list of works including the name of the artist, title of work, year made, medium and dimensions
- information of whether the images provided show the work intended to be exhibited
- additional material in the form of plans or drawings to support a written proposal, and
- a current Curriculum Vitae (2 pages maximum).
Selection Criteria
Priority is given to proposals that:
- promote innovation, diversity and quality in visual arts practice
- present artworks that exhibit a high level of competency
- demonstrate a high level of conceptual awareness
- present a coherent body of work for an exhibition, and
- present the artwork and overall proposal in a professional matter.
Selection process
Once all the exhibition proposals are submitted, they are assessed by a selection panel of the Gallery Curator, Gallery Assistant, Unit Manager of Arts and Culture and a representative approved by the Moreland Arts Board.
The selection panel makes recommendations to the Director of Social Development for approval. The Moreland Arts Board is also consulted during this process. The selection panel may call upon the additional expertise of acknowledged industry professionals in assessing proposals.
