Moreland's local laws
Moreland City Council has developed a range of local legislation that provides for order and good governance in Moreland. These laws were developed through a proactive consultation process.
Council has the following local laws with the objectives outlined:
Environmental and Civic Assets Local Law
The objectives of this local law are to:
- provide for the peace, order and good government of the municipal district
- protect Council land, Council assets and roads, and
- prevent damage to, or pollution of, Council land, Council assets and roads.

Moreland City Council General Local Law
The purposes of the local law are to provide for all of the following:
- the peace, order and good government of the municipal district
- a safe and healthy environment for the community of the municipal district
- the protection and enhancement of the amenity of the municipal district
- the safe, fair and reasonable use and enjoyment of public places and all premises within the municipal district
- the protection and enhancement of municipal buildings, public assets and assets of Council within the municipal district, and
- uniform and fair administration of the Local Law.

Meeting Procedure Local Law
The objectives of this Local Law are to:
- provide a mechanism to facilitate the good governance of Moreland City Council;
- promote and encourage community leadership by Moreland City Council consistent with the community’s views and expectations;
- promote and encourage community participation in local government;
- provide for the election of the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor;
- provide for the procedures governing the conduct of meetings; and
- provide for the use of Council’s common seal.
