Sewell Reserve netball courts

Project background

The Victorian Government’s new $9.6 million Inner City Netball Program is building 64 competition compliant netball courts in inner-Melbourne, ensuring nobody is turned away from playing the game they love.

Moreland is benefiting from the program, which will cater for the growing demand for netball by building multi court facilities where they are needed most.

Sewell Reserve is a local park in a bushland setting with a popular playground, picnic and barbecue facilities.

The reserve caters for AFL football and turf cricket and includes synthetic cricket practice nets. A wetland in the park collects stormwater from surrounding streets to irrigate the sports field. A skate park is currently under construction, with completion expected by the end of December 2017.

Project budget

The Sewell Reserve netball court construction is funded by the Victorian Government through the Inner City Netball Program.

Timelines

The design for 4 fully-lit competition compliant netball courts is underway. The courts will be located on the former Northern Golf driving range.

Construction of the Sewell Reserve netball courts will commence in 2018.
