New residents

Welcome Kit for new residents from Moreland City Council.Council welcomes you to Moreland. As a new resident, you join a diverse, active community of around 142, 000 people who have made Moreland home.

Moreland is the traditional home of the Wurundjeri people, part of the Woiworung group. Read more about local Indigenous history and the history of each suburb post-contact.

Welcome Kit for new residents

Council's Welcome Kit has practical community information and tries to make sure that your first experience of Council is positive. The Welcome Kit  is a pilot project for Council. 

Get a Welcome Kit from a Council Citizens Service Centre at Coburg, Brunswick and Glenroy.

Checklist for new residents

Once you've moved to Moreland, you should:

Icon of dog for pet registration rewewalIf you have pets: bring or send your pet's registration certificate from another council to Moreland City Council. We will recognise your animal as registered in Moreland until we send you an animal registration renewal in April. Tell your old Council you've moved so they can update their animal database.

Children iconIf you have children up to six years old: call Council to register your children with Council's Maternal and Child Health Services. Your children are eligible for free and local health check ups.

Rubbish, recycling and green waste collection

  • Council collects hard waste once a year in February and March.
  • It is illegal to leave rubbish on the footpath at all other times. You can be fined and charged.
  • Take large or toxic rubbish to a local transfer station

Council operates three Leisure Centres at Brunswick City Baths, Coburg Leisure Centre and Fawkner Leisure Centre with gyms, fitness classes and health programs at an affordable cost.
