Differential rating
Electronic gaming machine land differential rate
Council has a differential rating scheme for electronic gaming machine land. The revenue raised from the electronic gaming machine land differential rate will be used to fund research on problem gambling and develop and implement strategies to reduce the impact of problem gambling in the Moreland community.
The research will assist Council to promote the responsible use of electronic gaming machines.
Council will explore ways to improve the management of problem gambling in the community and reduce the impact of problem gambling through education.
Vacant or unoccupied land
The 2006–07 rating year saw the introduction of differential rates for vacant land and unoccupied land in Moreland.
Vacant land is any land on which no building is erected.
Unoccupied land is any land on which a building is erected but is determined as unfit for human habitation.
The purpose of differential rates is to encourage proper management of land, and/or buildings on that land. The differential rates are targeted directly at those landowners who allow their sites to deteriorate and become unsafe and pose a risk to public safety or amenity.
The declared rate in the dollar for the differential rates will be 0.010664 The rates will be calculated by multiplying the CIV of the property by the rate in the dollar.
For example, the differential rate for a property with a CIV of $390,000 will be assessed at $4159.00.
Apply for the vacant land rebate
For those properties levied the differential rate, owners will have the ability to reduce the amount payable by applying for a performance rebate.
To receive the rebate, property owners must agree to satisfy performance criteria detailed under Council's 'Vacant and Unoccupied Land Management Rebate Policy'.
A Vacant land rebate fact sheet and application form (DOC 217Kb) has been provided to relevant property owners. Owners should complete and return the form to Council, detailing the works that will be undertaken to satisfy the performance criteria.
Applications must be received by 30 September 2011. Late applications will not be accepted.
The property will then be inspected and if successful the rebate will be applied.
