Visits to Moreland homes for the VEET scheme

Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) Scheme

Moreland residents should be aware that they may be called or visited by companies taking part in the State Government Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) scheme.

VEET began on 1 January 2009 and aims to encourage residents install energy efficient technology (eg. light globes) with the ultimate aim of the reducing greenhouse emissions and slowing the onset of climate change.

VEET has been set up by the State Government and is managed by the Essential Services Commission.

What it means for you…

Company representatives may visit your home offering to install free light globes which reduce energy consumption. This in turn allows that company to claim a fee (via a certificate) from the Essential Services Commission.

If you choose to participate and have your light globes changed, you will be asked to sign a VEET Assignment Form which assigns the certificates generated by the ‘retrofit’ to the installer (you may request a copy of this form if you desire).

There are no other obligations on you, such as choosing an energy retailer or signing up to a program of any sort.

If you would like a company visit your home and change over your old light globes and showerhead visit the Essential Services Commission website for a list of accredited installers.

Advice

Residents should be aware that Council has not formed any partnership nor recommends any one company offering these services.

Any claim by a company / installer that they are visiting on behalf of any State Government department or Council is incorrect. They should be reported to the Essential Services Commission with the person’s name and company on the VEET Assignment Form.

As with any person contacting you via phone or door knocking, you should be security conscious.

As such it is unwise to let anyone into your home that you feel are deceptive in any way or pose any type of risk. If you are unhappy with the service or approach of a company installer contact the Essential Services Commission at veet@esc.vic.gov.au or on 9651 4911 and register your complaint.
