Moreland Civic Centre open access exhibition space
Moreland Civic Centre has two exhibition spaces for hire:
- Coburg Town Hall Foyer – Bell Street entrance, and
- Concert Hall Foyer – Urquhart Street entrance.
Together they offer over 40 metres of hanging space and are fitted with a track hanging system, which includes wire and moveable hooks so you can adjust the height of artworks.
Location
Council’s Moreland Civic Centre is at 90 Bell Street, Coburg.
Ample parking is available around the building.
Who can apply for an exhibition space
The open access exhibition space is a public space available to all members of the community:
- local artists
- schools
- community groups
- neighbourhood houses
- community art groups, and
- individuals

The total length of wall hanging space is 43.89 metres.

Coburg Town Hall Foyer exhibition space
This space offers mostly creamy white walls except for two blue-grey feature walls. It is fitted with track hanging system that includes wire and adjustable hooks. This space also has some natural and artificial light.

Concert Hall Foyer exhibition space
Mostly creamy white walls with natural light, fitted with track hanging system that includes wire and adjustable hooks. This space also has some natural and artificial light.

Viewing hours
Both exhibition spaces are open for viewing during business hours Monday to Friday, 8.30 am – 5 pm and are closed public holidays.
Cost
Applicants can apply to hire the open access exhibition space for a fee of $150. Payment is required prior to the exhibition.
Community groups, schools and neighbourhood houses can display art work free of charge.
No bond is required for booking the exhibition space

Hiring conditions
Exhibitions run for a maximum of 8 weeks.
Exhibitors are expected to install and take down their own artwork using Council’s hanging system.
An opening function can be arranged during business hours at no extra cost. Council will include access to the commercial kitchen, PA system and additional furniture during the opening function. Additional charges will apply for functions scheduled outside business hours. All food and drinks are to be provided by exhibitor and must comply with food safety and liquor licensing legislation. Council does not provide any crockery or cutlery at these functions.
Security
The exhibition space is incorporated in Moreland City Council’s Civic Centre building.
The foyers are fitted with ceiling mounted detectors and have a camera on the exterior of the building. The Council building also maintains a system of closed circuit television monitoring.
Insurance
Moreland City Council will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to artworks during their transportation, storage or display. Exhibitors are advised to take out the relevant insurance measures.
Exhibition sales
The open access exhibition space is a public space not a commercial gallery. No commission is taken on works sold, so all proceeds of the sale go directly to the exhibitors or artists.
It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to provide contact details at the exhibition space for interested parties to contact directly
Council does not provide contact details or sales support.
How to book an exhibition space
Applying for an exhibition does not guarantee an applicant will be approved for an exhibition.
It may take Council 2 to 3 weeks to assess and approve an application. All applications will be advised in writing if there application was successful.

- Detailed step-by-step instructions help you through the booking request process.
- We will send you an email with a booking request number and then contact you within two days to discuss your exhibiotn request.
- Once Council accepts your booking request, download, complete and send in the Moreland Civic Centre open access exhibition space booking form (DOC 313Kb).
- Council confirms your booking in writing.
