Council Election Polling Both including attendantCouncil elections are held every four years. Elections for the current Council were held on Saturday 29 November 2008.

The results of the Council election held on 29 November 2008 are available on the Victorian Electoral Commission website.

Do I have to vote at Council elections?

Voting is compulsory at Council elections if you are a resident and enrolled on the voters roll.

You are encouraged to vote but do not have to vote if you are:

  • aged 70 years and over, or
  • a non-resident voter. 

Am I eligible to vote?

You are already enrolled for a Council election if you are at least 18 years of age on the election day and you:

  • are on the State electoral roll for your present address, or
  • own property in Moreland but live in a different municipality, and are the first or second-named person on the rates notices, or
  • have applied to Council to be enrolled for this year’s election.

You may apply to Council to enrol to vote if you are at least 18 years of age on election day and you:

  • are a non-Australian citizen who lives and pays rates in the municipality,  or
  • pay rates on a property you occupy and have no other voting entitlement in the municipality (e.g. you are a shop tenant), and are either names on the Council’s rates records to receive the rates notice or have written consent of the owner to vote in their place, or
  • are a director or company secretary of a corporation that pays rates in the municipality and you have no other voting entitlement within the municipality.

Enrolling to vote

How do I enrol for elections?

You must enrol with the Victorian Electoral Commission if you:

  • are an Australian citizen aged 18 years of age or over on election day
  • have lived at your present address for at least a month, and
  • are not on the State electoral roll for your present address.

If you are a non-Australian resident living in Moreland, and you wish to vote at Council's elections, you may obtain an enrolment form from Council.

Enrolment forms

To enrol, fill out an enrolment form and submit it to the Victorian Electoral Commission.

Get an enrolment form from:

  • Victorian Electoral Commission website
  • the Victorian Electorial Commission on 13 18 32
  • the Australian Electoral Commission on 13 23 26, or
  • any Victorian or Australian Electoral Commission office.
